In our third week of Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) class, we learned how to use technology to improve our speaking, presentation, and pronunciation skills. These skills are important for communicating effectively in English.
Speaking and Presentation Skills
We used several tools to practice our speaking and presentation skills.
1) Vocaroo (A voice recorder that allows users to record and share audio files)
2) ScreenPal (A screen recording tool that enables users to create video tutorials and presentations)
3) XRecorder (A screen recording and video editing tool)
They allowed us to record ourselves and listen to our own voices. This helped us to improve our fluency, intonation, and video editing skills.
Pronunciation Skills
Next, we worked on our pronunciation skills. We used online resources to practice and improve our pronunciation such as:
1) Photransedit (A tool that provides phonetic transcriptions of words)
2) Phonetizer (A tool that converts text into phonetic transcriptions)
3) www.howjsay.com (A website that provides audio pronunciations of words and it also shows the words related to the word we searched for)
4) www.howmanysyllables.com (A website that provides information on syllable count, word stress and pronunciation)
These tools helped us to listen and repeat the pronunciation while providing the phonetic transcription of the words that also assisted us in understanding the word stress and pronunciation patterns in both American and British English.
